Tis the Season for …

Tis the Season for …

This is the time of year for Christmas lights (downtown Lexington at night),  snow (Lexington’s first snow for the season!),  ice skating at Triangle Park,  Christmas (and school) shopping,  visiting with friends (Hna. Rice visiting Aubrey in Rexburg, Idaho),  visiting family (Aubrey has stayed the weekend with Brittney several times this winter),  family newsletter pictures and,  festive Christmas sweaters (that Merinda wore her last day of school, and Brittney wore for her last day of work),  Christmas decorations! (Mom’s…

Tis the Season for … Company Christmas Parties

Tis the Season for … Company Christmas Parties

This year we drove up to Detroit again for Brad’s Company Christmas party. Brad had some meetings beforehand so we grabbed lunch at Frisch’s Big Boy, definitely not our first choice but choice number one had a gas leak due to the cold weather. Speaking of the cold weather and snow, I think this pictures describes it quite well!    The party was held at an Italian restaurant, and this was our table before everyone arrived.  Brad’s boss Herman, and…

Tis the Season for … Brad’s Birthday

Tis the Season for … Brad’s Birthday

Brad turned 51 this year, and I can truly say that I feel sorry for whoever’s birthday is in the month of December! I totally forgot it was his birthday until I was looking over my calendar mid-morning. And sadly, his birthday “party” was as weak as it looks.   Luckily, both Brittney and Aubrey remembered their dad’s birthday from the get go, and then Brittney joined our little celebration in the evening via FaceTime (Aubrey was taking finals, and…

Tis the Season for … Church Christmas Parties

Tis the Season for … Church Christmas Parties

For our ward Christmas activity this year, the primary leaders and young men (YM) & young women (YW) put on a progressive Christmas Story. After being divided into small groups, we walked to different rooms in the church building where the Christmas Story was being told.  The Angel Gabriel telling Mary she would conceive a son.  Mary pondering while singing a beautiful song. A YW Narrator  An angel telling the shepherds in the fields to “fear not…” Another YW Narrator …

Tis the Season for … Christmas Piano Recitals

Tis the Season for … Christmas Piano Recitals

I don’t know if Merinda is getting used to her new piano teacher yet, but I do know she is learning a lot about respecting her elders (Edna is 88), using manners, and not mumbling when she speaks! And I do have to admit that Edna even scares me a little sometimes (I would rather do just about anything than have Merinda miss a lesson, something that Edna does not take kindly to). But, it’s been a good experience for…

Tis the Season for … Christmas Band Concerts

Tis the Season for … Christmas Band Concerts

Unlike choir, we didn’t miss a beat with band, and really enjoyed their Christmas concert just as we have in previous years.  Mrs. King has done a great job this year as Head Band Director.  (Merinda is in the second row middle, I could only see her when the band stood to bow).   There are so many band kids that they are separated into four different band classes. Merinda is in 5th hour band, and above, both 5th and 7th hour…

Tis the Season for … Christmas Chorus Concerts

Tis the Season for … Christmas Chorus Concerts

We are back in the choir scene again since Merinda decided to try out for Concert Choir this year. I have to admit that the Christmas season wasn’t quite the same without going to the Chorus Concert at the Singletary Center in downtown Lexington. All the choirs were just as good as ever: The Concert Choir,  Women’s Choir,   Great Scott,  Ladies Ensemble,   Chamber Singers,  Master Singers,  Crimson Tweets, and Scarlet Harmony.  Breck even got the chance to come…

Tran-Siberian Orchestra

Tran-Siberian Orchestra

We went with our good friends, Rex and Veronica, to watch the Tran-Siberian Orchestra, something I’ve always wanted to do.  (concert group selfie…of course!) Two and a half hours of my favorite things – electric guitars and violin, laser light show, Christmas story telling and music, and amazing singers, how could it not be entertaining?!      It was everything I thought it would be, and more!  Just start scrolling to see the amazing stage performances and light shows!     Cool…

The Glitz

The Glitz

For my monthly luncheon with my nursing friends, we decided to go some place special for the holidays. The restaurant my friend Donna recommended was called “The Glitz”. It was located in the basement of this old school (that she used to attend when she was a child), nestled in the rolling hills and horse farms of Woodford county.   The drive and setting were just as beautiful as the restaurant and old school turned museum and consignment mall.  Lunch with…

He’s Home!

He’s Home!

It’s been less than a week since Breck returned home from a Mission to Rosario, Argentina. This is the first picture of Breck in the states (Atlanta airport) after being gone for two years!  I was so excited, I just wanted to jump for joy!     It was so nice to give Breck a great big hug again!  And I’ve really missed his nice smile! It was then Merinda’s turn for a big ol’ hug,      and then…
