Hiking in Frankfort, Kentucky

August 19, 2022

Rarely do we get nice days in August in Kentucky, so when that happens we try to make the most of them. In mid-August, there were a couple picture-perfect days that just happened to fall on the weekend, so I looked up some trails we've never hiked before and found some good ones in Frankfort KY, which is only a 20 minute drive from our house. It was also Aubrey's last weekend before teaching school so she was on board! In addition to hiking the trails at _Cove Springs Park_, we took a little history-tour trail at _Fort Hill_, which was an earthwork fort erected during the Civil War to protect Frankfort and its pro-union state government. In September 1862, the Confederate States took control of Frankfort, which incidentally is the only Union capital to have been conquered by Confederate forces during the Civil War.
