Fall Happenings

Thankfully, the Fall festivities continued after our return home from New England. Kentucky in the Fall is very beautiful as well...I took pictures of the autumn colors and falling leaves from my back door, but the pictures don't do it justice. Keeneland is also super pretty this time of year, and I'm still a little bummed we didn't make it to the races last October when friends and family were in town! Luckily, Brad had his co-worker Drew get reservations, for an afternoon at Keeneland, for their automotive group. Spouses were also invited, but since most of them live in Detroit, it was just the team (Drew, Sima, Brad, other Brad) and me. Everyone enjoyed the races and created their own system for picking the winning horses. Sima was even in the 'green' at the end of the day. The Kentucky bourbon was also a hit while Brad and I enjoyed the Kentucky bread pudding! On our way to Midway for dinner, we showed Sima Kentucky's very own castle in Versailles! Drew got us outdoor seating at Don Jockey's Mexican Grill, which was super yummy, especially the Tres Leches cake! I don't know about Brad's co-workers, but I had a delightful afternoon and evening!

In the spirit of Halloween we went with our friend's Rex & Veronica to a Halloween Candlelight Concert in downtown Lexington. Veronica came up with the idea, and I thought it was brilliant (another obsession of mine is live music, especially strings)! It was a quartet that played the above compositions beautifully while shimmering candles covered the stage and isles. The funnest part for me was just trying to guess the song and/or movie score. After the concert we went out for ice cream at Crank & Boom in Lexington's distillery district. It was good, but not as good as Hoggy's in Georgetown!

The next day we continued with the Halloween (and Holt) theme by visiting the Wicked World in Lexington. I think it all started when I was complaining to Rex & Veronica about not visiting a haunted house in ages! Rex did a little research, and well, the rest is history! The Wicked World had, not one, but three haunted houses! The main house was the typical creepy, gory place with people jumping out of dark places, the second was an old factory where we got to shoot zombies with game-guns they provided, and the third was a creepy fun-house with slanted floors. Wicked World also had a gift shop, food and drinks for purchase, scary photo-ops, and creepy actors walking around for extra scares! We topped-off the evening at our house with a not-so-scary Halloween movie and kettle corn.

No Fall season would be complete without a hike up the Berea Pinnacles! It's my favorite hike in Kentucky, and in the Fall it's simply magical! So, who did I drag to the Pinnacles this year? Yep, you guessed it, Rex & Veronica, because we were on a Halloween/Autumn roll! And as usual the colors and views did not disappoint! After the hike we stopped by Buc'ees for some drinks and enjoyed dinner at Chuy's, with more amazing Tres Leche cake (do you sense a theme here?)!
