Verona

Map of historical Verona
We followed a person's blog who did “Verona in a day”. One of the items on her list was to take a picture in front of the bronze heart statue—and so we did!
Walking through the shopping district of Verona

Candy store where we bought some licorice (front of picture). Europe really does have the best licorice—it's totally superior to the U.S.'s!
Piazza Bra is a very popular place with cafes, stores, and the Ancient Verona Arena.
Ancient Verona Arena

Casa di Giulietta or Juliet Balcony and Courtyard. The interesting thing about the balcony is Shakespeare's fictitious character never stood on this balcony, nor was it in the original movie, in fact, balconies weren't even a thing is Shakespeare's time!
Brad is looking at a wall which was covered in letters and featured in the movie, “Letters to Juliet”, so I guess that's a thing.
Market Square Piazza delle Erbe was vital to the city from the time of the Roman Empire.
Palazzo Maffei is a historical palace turned museum. We got tickets to the rooftop to check out the views.
Climbing the spiral staircase to the roof top
Interesting artistic wind chime hanging in the middle

Statues lining the rooftop
360 degree views from the top

View of the Verona flee market below where we got lunch, and bought souvenirs.
Delicious paninis for lunch!
Basilica di Santa Anastasia
Inside view and info about this beautiful church!

I love the frescos on the sides of the buildings, many of them showing only after old plaster wears away.
One of the oldest buildings in Verona with more frescos, but notice the differently shaped windows—not the typical Roman style.
Ponte Pietra, or stone bridge, crossing the Adige River, has been restored numerous times throughout history. The bridge was built in 89 BC by the Romans. The two white arches are original Roman white stone, the rest of it went through extensive repairs in 1298 and 1500's due to flooding. During WWII it was blown up by German troops in 1945, and meticulously rebuilt in 1957 using original material.
View of Castel San Pietro from across the river.
Brad and I decided to hike the many steps of the castle for views of Verona from the top!

Different levels and landings before making it to the top.
Finally reaching the top!
